What Have I Done?

I'm not sure, but the pain pills I had been taking for my tooth may have effected my mental capacities. At least, that's my story and I'm gonna stick to it. I did something today I thought I would never do and may live to regret.

We were out doing some errands and I suggested we go to a certain store. I was looking for something specific and knew I would find it at this particular place. I had seen them there last summer, but wasn't courageous enough to acquire one.

Musicman asked me what I was going to do with this particular item while we were in the store. I told him I would explain later. He didn't think much of it, I bought the item and we went on with our day. He hasn't inquired since we got home what I plan on doing with it. He probably thinks it's for some project or another as I always seem to have something I'm working on.

Have you guessed yet what I might be referring to? I bought a bamboo garden stake, it's 3' long. Actually, they came in a pack of 25. Obviously I don't need that many, but they didn't sell them individually.

Yep, I went and acquired an entire pack of canes. I have heard they are a quiet implement, something we desperately need more of. Also, I seem to have overcome my total fear of them. Of course that fear may come roaring back once we actually try one. Then I'm really gonna be in trouble if he likes it and I don't. Breaking or losing one is easily understandable, but 25 of them?

Anyone want a cane? They are free to a good home. Haahaahaaa. Oh goodness, what have I gotten myself into?

    1. I'm already thinking about what else I could use them for. I'm picturing a really cool wall hanging maybe.

  2. Wow, really, 25 is a lot. I guess if you want to get rid of them inconspicuously you need a big garden, or a neat project before Musicman asks questions. I hope you can put them to best use and be careful, these ones can probably be very nasty and stingy.

    1. 25 is a lot, but that was the smallest pack they had. I don't have room for a really big garden. I would love one, but we have a really big pool that takes up most of our yard. It's too late for Musicman to ask questions, he quite gleefully informed me he knew exactly why I was buying them, darn man. I do however, have a really neat project in mind, just in case.

    1. Good to know it turned out well for you. We haven't tried them yet, but right now I'm not too worried about it.

  4. If there from a garden store or similar, be cautious to check them over as they can be prone to splitting, as they are not designed for what you want them for....and that you dont want lol

I love the cane, my favourite in fact, and the key is i think to handling them is a really good warm up...have fun!!

    1. A really good warm up? That's not usually something Musicman does. Maybe he will when we do try it. He has checked them out and has set one aside, so maybe I will find out soon if I like it or not.

    1. Nope, you're not. My curiosity has been known to get me in plenty of pickles over the years.

    1. The oral surgeon who extracted 2 teeth today was nice enough to give me a refill, maybe I will squirrel a few away, just in case. You wouldn't be the first person to accuse me of being crazy, but hey...being crazy makes life interesting, right?

  7. Good gravy woman! I agree with Sunny...hide 24! And if they get found, I agree with PK...save some of those pain pills...but if ya do, NO leaving the house or shopping while under the influence! Good luck!

    1. Hiding them does seem to be the general consensus. I'm picturing a lovely wall hanging myself. Even though I am blaming the pain pills, the truth is I hadn't taken any for 2 days, must be they have a residual effect.

    1. I'll definitely let you know how it goes once we try them. I had already thought about the fact that they would make great kindling for the fire pit before I ever got home with them.

  9. Oh my Fearie, I did a similar thing, fortunately it was only one! Very stingy, ouch!

    1. They didn't sell them individually, or I definitely would have only gotten one. So, did you keep yours or did you dispose of it?

  10. The cane is a quiet implement that still packs a punch. It's one of my favorites. But like tori said, check them over so you don't end up with more than you bargained for!! Have fun!

    1. Musicman has already checked them, he even picked one out and it is waiting in a corner for future use. I really do hope I don't hate it, a quiet implement is desperately needed since we never seem to have any privacy any more.

  11. Yep, H bought a whole pack like that from the garden centre. He's no gardener, me and the boys were with him. I knew what he was up to but the boys just kept asking him why he needed so many canes I'm a loud voice.
These garden ones do split eventually and he did sand them down a bit. But we have a bundle in the garage now 'just in case' and one in the bedroom!

    1. Musicman informed me he knew exactly why I was buying them. I guess he asked just to see what I would say. He has also checked them out and picked one, it is waiting in a corner close to the bed. Do I dare admit I would like to try it soon?

    1. Let me save you the time, I'll gladly send you one cause even if I do like it, I think 24 extra is a bit of overkill.

  13. Good for you. I love our garden cane. P cut one down and he uses it OTK.

    1. It's people like you and the others who say they love them, that motivated me to get one. That and the fact that we never have enough privacy for the louder implements. We haven't tried one yet, but oddly, I'm not at all anxious about it.

    1. Really, I hadn't taken any pain pills in 2 days. But, they must have still had an effect on me, cause why else would I do that? Oh yeah, cause we need something quiet and there seem to be just as many people who love them as hate them. I'm gonna make something with some of them, cause even if I love it, we really do not need that many. I'm seeing a wall hanging in my head, just need to find some time to make it.

    1. Last summer, when I first spotted them, I was too afraid to buy one too. I only bought 25 cause that was the smallest pack they had. I could always send you one if you are interested.

  16. LOL I'd be hiding AT LEAST 24 of them too! I bought something that also left me with those "what was I thinking" kind of thoughts. It's tucked between the mattresses. Didn't know where else to stash it. Too much wine last night had it on the tip of my tongue... then came back to my senses lol

    1. At least you were smart enough not to buy what ever it is when he was with you. That insures you can keep it hidden for as long as you need or want to, just watch the wine intake, lol.

    1. Yes, I know, someone should definitely question my sanity for doing that. All I can say is, I really wanted to try a cane and couldn't find a smaller pack. Yeah, I could have waited and found a smaller pack some where else, but I had been considering it for a long time and now felt like the right time.

  18. Yes, do be careful. They tend to be really dry and can split and splinter. Also, bamboo has all those joints. Watch for sharp edges. If you're feeling particularly brave, soak them for an hour or so before you use them. Good luck!
